This article investigates the spherical gravitational collapse of an imperfect fluid. Gravitational collapse in the spherical case is of interest since critical phenomena and the occurrence of naked singularities can be studied in a comparatively simple situation. Since the numerical identification of black holes in the collapse case is not without ambiguities, analytic studies are important. In the present article an exact solution to the Einstein equations in terms of infinite series is given for a fluid with vanishing radial pressure and a tangential pressure which vanishes at the origin. The occurence of possible singularities at the origin is studied. The initial conditions are arranged in a way that there is no shell crossing in the vicinity of the origin. It is shown that the conditions for the occurence of naked singularities are in this case as in the case of dust and that covered as well as naked singularities may occur.
