The authors deal with the behaviour of the Yang-Mills flow for unitary connections on compact and noncompact oriented surfaces with varying metrics. The flow defines a one-dimensional foliation on the space of SU(2) representations of a once-punctured surface. The authors study the behaviour of the foliation where the conformal structure degenerates. Here they show that for certain kinds of ideal boundary points on Teichmüller space, the foliation actually converges away from some singularities.
