This paper is devoted to the applicability of the time-dependent fractal dimension (TDFD) to lung sound analysis. The authors show that lung sound time series exhibit self-affine structures and, as such, their fractal dimensions can be evaluated according to the critical exponent method (CEM). As a result this analysis gives a very typical pattern for normal lung sounds collected from normal individuals. It has been verified that the dimension remains constant about 1.49 for normal samples. This pattern seems to be quite universal since it was found by the authors independently of individual physical characteristics.
