The authors prove the existence and uniqueness of a positive solution to the fourth-order singular problem \[ L (Lu) = f(\cdot,u), \text{ on } (0,1); \quad u'(0)=0, (Lu)'(0)=0, u'(1)=0,\;u(1)=0. \] Here, \(f:[0,1) \times (0,\infty) \to (0,\infty)\) is continuous, \(Lu= (A u')'/A\), \(A\) is a continuous function on \([0,1]\), infinitely differentiable and positive on \((0,1]\). To this end, they give several properties of the Green function associated with the operator \(L^2\).
