This paper discusses the problems of controlling the position of the surface of a deformable mirror (DM) in such a way to approximately cancel the atmospheric turbulence effects on the phase of incoming light waves front in adaptive optics. The authors describe a simplified feasible mathematical framework that accounts for the interactions among main component involved in an adaptic optics imaging system. The authors get the identical linear relationship \[ \Delta s(t)= W\Delta\phi(t)+ s(t), \] where \(\Delta\phi(t):= \phi(t)- Ha(t)\), is the observable instantaneous wave front distortion at time \(t\), \(\Delta s(t):= s(t)- Ga(t)\) is the DM actuator adjustment, \(a(t)\) is the DM commands issued at time \(t\), \(W\), \(H\), \(G\) are matrices. This paper describes several ways to estimate \(\Delta\phi(t)\) and address several possible strategies for the actuator command vector \(a(t)\). Finally, using MATLAB the authors presented a numerical simulation of some small size problems to illustrate the formal mathematics. This simulation shows this mathematics framework is effectiveness.
