The authors made several important contributions to the study of the Hilbert scheme of space curves with fixed genus and degree using and refining linkage theory. In particular each space curve or each flat family of space curves has an associated sheaf, \(N\), which governs its minimal free resolution. Let \(A\) be a noetherian local ring and let \(C\), \(C'\) be families of curves of \(\mathbb{P}^3_A\), flat over \(A\), with \(N\) and \(N'\) as associated sheaves. In a previous paper the authors proved that \(C\) and \(C'\) are in the same biliaison class if and only if \(N\) and \(N'\) are pseudo-isomorphic. Here the authors show how to find all families associated to a given sheaf \(N\). They prove that all such families are obtained from a minimal one by a sequence of elementary biliaisons and a deformation (Lazarsfeld-Rao property). The calculations are algorithmic in terms of a presentation of \(N\).
