The authors investigate phase equations of the form \[ \theta'(t)=\omega_i+\sum_{i=j}^{m}\alpha_j^+H^+(\theta_{i+j}-\theta_i) +\sum_{j=1}^{m}\alpha_j^-H^-(\theta_{i-j}-\theta_i), \tag{*} \] with \(\alpha_i^{\pm}>0\) and \(H^{\pm}\) are \(2\pi\)-periodic functions of their arguments. Starting with a piecewise linear coupling function, a homotopy method is applied to prove the existence of phase locked solutions. Numerical examples illustrate the existence and properties of the solutions.
