The first part of the paper contains some results well known with publications. The main result of the paper is a characterization of \(L_p\)-spaces, \(1< p<\infty\), among the class of rearrangement invariant (r.i.) Banach spaces. Very important and interesting are the following remarks: a) the Lorentz space \(L_{p,q}\) belong to the class of all nice r.i. spaces \({\mathcal N}\), b) the spaces \(L_{p,\infty}\cap L_{q,\infty}\) are nice, for \(1< p\neq q<\infty\), c) the Lorentz space \(\Lambda(\Phi)\) is nice, d) the Marcinkiewicz space \(M(\Phi)\in{\mathcal N}\), e) the Orlicz space \(L^\Phi\in{\mathcal N}\).
