A new result on the Nirenberg problem for expanding maps (Q1588346)

L. Nirenberg asked in 1974 whether or not an expanding continuous map in a Hilbert space whose range contains an open set is onto. The first negative answer was given by a counterexample due to \textit{J.-M. Morel} and \textit{H. Steinlein} [J. Funct. Anal. 59, 145-150 (1984; Zbl 0574.47033)]. Building on a previous paper [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 116, No. 4, 1041-1044 (1992; Zbl 0783.47067)], the author constructs another example with several additional properties.
