The authors study the convergence sets of solutions to drift-diffusion systems (arising from plasma, semiconductor and electrolyte theories) to their self-similar or steady states, improving previous results of \textit{A. Arnold}, \textit{P. Markowich} and \textit{G. Toscani} [Transp. Theory Stat. Phys. 29, 571-581 (2000; Zbl 1017.82041)] by relaxing the assumptions on the initial data and showing a stronger decay rate, as well as the results of \textit{P. Biler}, \textit{W. Hebisch} and \textit{T. Nadzieja} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 23, 1189-1209 (1994; Zbl 0814.35054)], by showing the exponential convergence towards the steady states for a bounded domain.
