The classical Rudin-Carleson theorem states that on the circle, any continuous function on a set \(E\) of measure zero can be extended continuously to a continuous function which extends analytically into the disk. By standard dualization arguments this is equivalent to a certain lower bound for the Riesz projection of measures supported on \(E\). The author studies higher dimensional analogues of this result; the set E is still assumed to have measure 0, but the Riesz projection is now replaced by a family of standard multipliers of order 0, with the assumption that these multipliers do not all simultaneously vanish at a frequency \(\xi\) and its dual \(-\xi\) (this is so that the sum of squares of these multipliers will be invertible). A variant is also proven in the case when \(E\) is restricted to a hyperplane (in which case one only needs to verify the previous condition for \(\xi\) normal to the hyperplane). The argument is based around the space \(H^{1,\infty}\), the Hardy space of functions whose square function is in weak \(L^1\).
