\textit{G. Goes} [Math. Z. 70, 345-371 (1959; Zbl 0087.06901) and Math. Ann. 137, 371-384 (1959; Zbl 0087.07001)] developed the theory of complementary spaces of Fourier coefficients with respect to the Cesàro method of summability. \textit{M. Tynnov} [Uch. Zap. Tartu Gos. Univ. 192, Tr. Mat. Mekh. 6, 65-81 (1966; Zbl 0208.15202); ibid. 82-96 (1966; Zbl 0208.15301)] generalized these results for regular methods of summability. The present authors extend the theory from univariate to bivariate case. They consider functions of bounded variation in the sense of Hardy, summability methods defined by means of triangular matrices which transform double series into double sequences, and prove seven theorems. Similar results for the Cesàro or Abel methods of summability were known earlier in some particular cases [see \textit{A. Zygmund}, ``Trigonometric series'', Vol. I, II (1959, Zbl 0085.05601)].
