    The author considers the boundary value problem \[ -u''(t)+ \lambda\sin u(t)= \mu f(u(t)),\quad u(t)> 0,\quad u(\pm T)= 0,\quad t\in (-T, T), \] where \(\lambda, \mu> 0\) are parameters, \(f\) is locally Lipschitz continuous and satisfies certain additional properties. For \(n\in\mathbb{N}\) let \(H(n)\) be defined as \[ F(2(n+ 1)\pi)- 2nF(2n\pi)+ 2\sum^{n- 1}_{k= 0} F(2k\pi) \] with \(F(u)= \int^u_0 f(s) ds\). The author shows that if \(H(n)> 0\) and there exists a number \(\alpha\) satisfying \(2\pi n< \alpha< 2(n+ 1)\pi\) and \[ F(2n\pi)< F(\alpha)< {1\over 2(n+ 1)} F(2(n+ 1)\pi)+ {1\over n+1} \sum^n_{k= 0} F(2k\pi), \] then there exists a solution \(u_\lambda\) which has \(2(n+1)\) multiple transition layers at \(t= \pm T_{\alpha,n}\), \(\pm(T- T_{\alpha, n}),\pm(T- 3 T_{\alpha, n}),\dots\), \(\pm(T- (2n-1) T_{\alpha,n})\) as \(\lambda\to \infty\), with \(T_{n,\alpha}= F(\alpha)- F(2n\pi) T/H(n)\).
