Current methods to approximate meromorphic functions are mostly designed in terms of rational functions. The paper under review uses generalized rational interpolants with partially prescribed poles (GRIP) to approximate some classes of meromorphic functions. The main goal of the article is to study the approximation of the transfer functions with a finite number of poles by GRIP approximants. A section is devoted to derive some extensions to regions of the form \(D_\rho= \{z:{\text Re}z>\rho\}\). Some numerical results are shown to illustrate the power of the GRIP method. For the purposes of comparison, the Padé exponential method is also applied. This work extends results on stable control systems obtained in a previous work of the authors [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 244, No. 1, 147-168 (2000; Zbl 0967.41010)].
