    The main result in this paper is an identity for sums of the form \(\sum _{n=1}^{\infty} \tau ^2(n)g(n)\), where \(\tau (n)\) is the Ramanujan function and \(g\) is a sufficiently nice function. In the special case \(g(x)= e^{-yx}\) with positive \(y\) tending to zero, the sum in question equals \[ 12\Gamma (11)y^{-12}+ y^{-11}\sum_{\rho }y^{-\rho /2}\Gamma (\rho /2+11)\frac{\zeta (\rho /2)}{\zeta '(\rho)}\mathcal L (\rho /2) + O(y^{-11+1/2}), \] where \(\rho \) runs over the complex zeros of Riemann's zeta-function and \(\mathcal L(s-11)\) is the symmetric square zeta-function related to the Ramanujan zeta-function. This proves a conjecture of \textit{D. Zagier} [J. Fac. Sci., Univ. Tokyo, Sect. I A Math. 28, 415--437 (1981; Zbl 0505.10011)].
