The author deals with value distribution of holomorphic maps of \(\mathbb{C}^2\) to \(\mathbb{C}^2\) after \textit{T. Nishino}'s study on entire functions of two complex variables [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 15, 527-553 (1975; Zbl 0345.32002)]. Nishino's study is based on value distribution of level curves entire functions. In this paper the author first gives a condition under which a holomorphic maps \(F:\mathbb{C}^2\to\mathbb{C}^2\) is a polynomial map. For the proof, he uses an extension of the big Picard theorem, which was proved in his previous paper [Kodai Math. J. 18, No. 3, 408-424 (1995; Zbl 0852.32012)]. By making use of Nishino's theorem proved in the above cited paper, he gives the main theorem as follows (Theorem 2.8): Let \(F:\mathbb{C}^2 \to \mathbb{C}^2\) be a nondegenerate holomorphic map of algebraic type. Then there exists a polynomial map \(F_0\) and \(T\in\Aut (\mathbb{C}^2)\) such that \(F=F_0\circ T\).
