Suppose \(G\) is a non-Abelian finite group. Then \(\text{Irr}(G/G')\), being an Abelian group, acts on the set of nonlinear irreducible characters of \(G\) via the multiplication of characters. In this paper some facts are established about that action. For instance, the structure of \(G\) is determined when either all the orbit kernels are trivial or the number of orbits is at most 2. Using these results, it is clear how to classify groups \(G\) having at most three nonlinear irreducible characters, but there is much, much more. The reviewer liked the concrete calculatory flavour of the paper, in which Frobenius groups, homogeneous character induction theory of \textit{E. B. Kuisch} and \textit{R. W. van der Waall} [J. Algebra 170, No. 2, 584-595 (1994; Zbl 0817.20020)], semi-extraspecial \(p\)-groups, and work of \textit{I. M. Isaacs} and \textit{D. S. Passman} [Can. J. Math. 20, 1451-1458 (1968; Zbl 0165.34303)] (among others) dance around.
