Love wave sensors are frequently used for measuring various physical parameters (mass density, viscosity, etc.). Such a sensor could be constituted by using a piezoelectric thin layer which is deposited on a substrate. For better performance, the piezoelectric layer is really a layered piezoelectric structure, so that gathering the piezoelectric layers together leads to the presence of an initial stress. This paper investigates the effect of initial stress directed in the layer planes. The analysis is performed for transversely isotropic materials, such as BaTiO\(_3\) or PZT-family with various substrates such as glass or borosilicate. It results from the investigation that the electromechanical coupling factor increases remarkably when the initial streas is over 100 MPa.
