The authors use the method of cutting and stacking to construct nonsingular Chacon transformations whose 2-fold Cartesian product is ergodic. The Chacon transformations constructed have 2-cuts and variable ratios, i.e., at the \(n\)th stage of the construction, each level is cut into three intervals of ratios \(1:\lambda_n:1\). They prove that if the \(\lambda_n\)'s are suitably controlled, then all nonsingular types (\(\text{II}_\infty\) and \(\text{III}_\lambda\), \(0\leq\lambda\leq 1\)) with ergodic 2-fold Cartesian product can be achieved.
