    Let \(K_f(x)\) denote the local (outer) dilatation of a quasiregular map \(f:D\to \mathbb{R}^n\), \(D\) a domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). Using their extension, see \textit{V. Ya. Gutlyanskij}, \textit{O. Martio} and \textit{V. I. Ryazanov}, \textit{M. Vuorinen}, Forum Math. 10, No. 3, 353-375 (1998; Zbl 0907.30024)], of the Strebel theorem in space the authors show that \(K_f(x) \leq\lim \sup_{j \to\infty} K_{f_j}(x)\) holds for a.e. \(x\in D\) provided that \(Q\)-quasiregular mappings \(f_j\) converge locally uniformly in \(D\) to a mapping \(f\). This result has applications to the Liouville type stability theorems in space. Semicontinuity of the mean dilatations is also considered.
