\textit{P. Diamond} and \textit{P. Kloeden} [ibid. 29, No. 3, 341-348 (1989; Zbl 0661.54011)] and subsequently many others have used the notion of Hausdorff metric to measure the difference between fuzzy numbers. In this paper the authors have introduced a notion called \(p\)-mean symmetric difference to measure the difference between fuzzy numbers. They have proved that a subclass of fuzzy numbers is complete with respect to the \(p\)-mean symmetric difference metric. They have also given an interesting example to show that the collection of all fuzzy numbers is not complete with respect to the \(p\)-mean symmetric difference metric.
