There are practical necessary and sufficient conditions for degeneration of representations of tame quivers by work of \textit{S. Abeasis} and \textit{A. Del Fra} [J. Algebra 93, 376-412 (1985; Zbl 0598.16030)], \textit{C. Riedtmann} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér., IV. Sér. 19, 275-301 (1986; Zbl 0603.16025)] and \textit{K. Bongartz} [J. Algebra 139, No. 1, 159-171 (1991; Zbl 0787.16011)]. \textit{G. Zwara} [Compos. Math. 121, No. 2, 205-218 (2000; Zbl 0957.16007)] gave a necessary and sufficient condition for degeneration of representations of arbitrary quivers, however his criterion is not quite as practical. The author defines asymptotic degeneration of nilpotent representations of an arbitrary quiver. The definition uses tensor products and direct sums of representations. The main result is a very easy, necessary and sufficient criterion for asymptotic degeneration of nilpotent representations. If \(A\) is any algebra with a multiplicative basis, then there is a sensible definition of a tensor product of two representations. The main result generalizes to algebras with a multiplicative basis.
