By definition, a homogeneous space \(G/H\) of a Lie group \(G\) has a compact Clifford-Klein form (or a tessellation) if there is a discrete subgroup \(\Gamma\subset G\) acting properly on \(G/H\) such that \(\Gamma\backslash G/H\) is compact. In the paper, the case when \(G = SO(2,n)\) and \(H\) is a connected closed subgroup of \(G\) is studied. For \(G = SO(2,2m)\), the authors give a complete description of all possible subgroups \(H\) such that \(G/H\) has a compact Clifford-Klein form. For \(G = SO(2,2m+1)\), they conjecture (following T. Kobayashi) that \(SO(2,2m+1)/SU(1,m)\) does not have a compact Clifford-Klein form. Under this conjecture, they prove that if \(SO(2,2m+1)/H\) has a compact Clifford-Klein form, then \(H\) is compact or cocompact. It is also proved that if \(H\) is a connected closed subgroup of \(SL(3,\mathbb R)\) such that \(SL(3,\mathbb R)/H\) has a compact Clifford-Klein form, then \(H\) is compact or cocompact.
