The result given by the author in [ibid. 64, 243-264 (2002; see the preceding review)] is a generalization of the corresponding result for semigroups with zero. In this paper the author shows that this theorem is false if one omits the assumption that the semigroup is of class \({\mathcal M}\). The counterexample is based on an extension theorem for positive definite functions.
