The author obtains a solution for wrinkling of tubes in bending using finite strain three-dimensional continuum theory. The solution for a tube under pure bending as a plane strain problem provides the prebifurcation solution. The onset of wrinkling is then predicted by introducing buckling modes involving a sinusoidal variation of the displacements along the length of the tube. No approximation of shell theory is used. The flow theory of plasticity with isotropic hardening is used for the prebuckling solution, but the bifurcation check is based on incremental moduli of finite strain deformation theory of plasticity. A comparison of small and finite strain results is made.
