In quantum mechanics, magnetic potentials have a direct significance to the motion of particles, as opposed to classical mechanics where the motion is governed only by magnetic fields (Aharonov-Bohm effect). The authors consider the two-dimensional scattering problem for a single quantum particle in the presence of two magnetic fields with a compact support separated by a large distance \(|d|\). Denoting by \(\gamma(x,\omega)\) the azimuth angle from direction \(\omega\) and \(\tau(x,\omega,\widetilde\omega)= \gamma(x,\omega)- \gamma(x,- \widetilde\omega)\) the authors obtain the following asymptotic formula for the scattering amplitude of the problem with two fields in terms of the scattering amplitudes of the corresponding problems with one field only: \[ \begin{multlined} f_d(\omega\to \widetilde\omega, E)= \exp(i\alpha_2\tau(- d,\omega, \widetilde\omega)) f_1(\omega\to \widetilde\omega, E)+\\ \exp(i\alpha_1\tau(d, \omega,\widetilde\omega)) f_{2,d}(\omega\to \widetilde\omega, E)+ o(1),\end{multlined} \] where \(f_{2,d}(\omega\to \widetilde\omega, E)= e^{i\sqrt{E}d(\omega- \widetilde\omega)} f_2(\omega\to \widetilde\omega, E)\) and \(\omega\neq {d\over|d|}\). The last assumption can be dropped if at least one of the magnetic fluxes is an integer.
