Willmore surfaces in \(S^n\) (Q1599391)

The author establishes an integral inequality for compact Willmore surfaces in the \(n\)-dimensional unit sphere \(S^n\) and obtains a new characterization of the Veronese surface in \(S^4\) as a Willmore surface. In the special case where the Willmore surface is minimal the result is reduced to a well-known result, see \textit{K. Benko}, \textit{M. Kothe}, \textit{K.-D. Semmler} and \textit{U. Simon} [Colloq. Math. 42, 19-31 (1979; Zbl 0437.53032)] or \textit{M. Kozlowski} and \textit{U. Simon} [Math. Z. 186, 377-382 (1984; Zbl 0543.53045)].
