The author constructs embeddings of boundary algebras into Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebras, which allows one to make a link between different approaches to the study of systems with boundaries. The construction, which can be applied to any infinite-dimensional quantum group (for example to Yangians and centerless affine and elliptic quantum groups), uses vertex operators and is classified by reflection matrices.
