The authors define a universal Dixmier-Douady class in a setting that permits its explicit calculation in terms of the curvature of a superconnection. This result brings mathematical rigor to a suggested formula for the \(B\)-field in string theory. Among the authors' other contributions to this field is \textit{A. L. Carey}, \textit{J.
