Some mathematical models of the boost and buck-boost converters are investigated. Such models usually exhibit systems of ordinary differential equations. Some questions concerning the acting of such systems are discussed, the necessity of indirect treatment and searching for the appropriate signal among them. In the case under study, the existence of a periodic solution for the tracking of a periodic signal is proved. This solution may be found using the harmonic balance method as Fourier series. In doing so, the authors estimate the output error. The stability of the system dynamics under appropriate assumptions is analyzed. Some simulations concerning an ideal buck-boost converter are presented.
