This work is concerned with the effect of non-local interactions on the Peierls stress of a dislocation. Peierls-Nabarro model for a dislocation is adopted. This model helps to define the core of dislocation. Peierls stress is defined as the critical value of applied shear stress above which the core of dislocation shifts more than one Burgers vector with respect to the unloaded configuration. Peierls stress is computed by assuming a non-local linear isotropic elasticity developed mainly by Eringen. The constitutive equations are given by integral relations determined by a kernel of non-locality, and the material possesses an inherent scale of length. The Gaussian kernel of Eringen is slightly modified so that it agrees better with a type of Lennard-Jones interaction potential. Finally, the integral-type constitutive relations are approximated, so that one obtains constitutive relations that contain an additional term involving the Laplacian of the stress. The core size and shape and the Peierls stress are evaluated for these three cases, and are graphically depicted.
