The following result is proved. Theorem. Let \(G\) be a \(p\)-solvable group and suppose that \(\gamma^G=\chi\in\text{Irr}(G)\), where \(\gamma\in\text{Irr}(U)\) is primitive, and let \(Q\in\text{Syl}_p(U)\). Then (a) \(O_p(C_G(Q))=Z(Q)\). (b) Let \(N=O_{p'}(G)\). If \(\chi_N\) is homogeneous, then \(C_{G/N}(Q)=Z(Q)N/N\). The proof of assertion (a) is divided into two very different cases, according to whether \(p=2\) or \(p>2\).
