The author studies Navier-Stokes equations \( u_t-\triangle u+u\cdot \nabla u+\nabla p=f\), \(\operatorname {div} u=0\), which describe a viscous incompressible fluid in some bounded domain \(\Omega \), the whole \(\mathbb R\)\(^3\) or an exterior domain in \(\mathbb R\)\(^3\) with smooth boundary \(\partial \Omega \). The time interval is \([0,T)\) (\(T>0\)). The boundary condition is \(u|_{\partial\Omega }=0\) (\(\partial\Omega \neq \emptyset \)), and the initial condition \(u(0,x)=u_0(x)\). Here \(f=(f_1(t,x),f_2(t,x),f_3(t,x))\in C_0^{\infty }([0,T)\times \overline\Omega)^3\) is the external force, \(u_0\in L_{\sigma }^2(\Omega)\), \(u=(u_1(t,x),u_2(t,x),u_3(t,x))\) means the unknown velocity field of the fluid, \(p=p(t,x)\) means the unknown pressure. The main result is an extension of Serrin's regularity criterion by introducing Lorentz spaces in both time and spatial direction. The author considers weak solutions which satisfy the energy inequality in a strong form. The main regularity result is that \(u\in C^{\infty }([0,T)\times \overline\Omega)^3\) provided that \(u\in L^{s,r}(0,T;L^{q,\infty })\) with \(3<q<\infty \), \(2<s\leq r<\infty \), \(3/q+2/s=1\). The second statement is that there exists a positive constant \(\Gamma \) which depends on \(\Omega , q, s\) and such that \(\|u\|_{L^{s,\infty }(0,T;L^{q,\infty })}\leq \Gamma \). Moreover, \(u\) is regular as in the first result provided that \(u\in L^{s,\infty }(0,T;L^{q,\infty })\).
