Rings \(R\) satisfying the following condition are studied. For an integer \(m \geq 1\), a ring \(R\) satisfies \((m,1)\)-stable range if \(aR+bR=R\) implies that \( R(a+by)=R\) with \(y\) being the sum of \(m\) units in \(R\). This condition is stronger than the first stable range condition of Bass, where \(y \in R\) is arbitrary.
