liminf and limsup contractions (Q1607752)

Summary: We give some theorems related to the contraction mapping principle of Banach-Caccioppoli and Edelstein. The contractive conditions we consider involve the quantities \(\liminf_{\xi \rightarrow \cdot} d(\xi,f\xi)\) and \(\limsup_{\xi \rightarrow \cdot} d(\xi,f\xi)\) instead of \(d(\cdot,f\cdot)\). Some examples are provided to show the difference between our results and the classical ones.
