If \(X\) is a Banach space and \(E\) an \(X \)--valued sequence space, then \[ E^\beta =\left\{(f_k) : f_k\in X^\prime (k\in{\mathbb N}) \text{ and \(\sum\limits_kf_k(x_k)\) converges for all \((x_k)\in E\)}\right\} \] is called the \(\beta \)--dual of \(E.\) This notion -- in a more general setting -- is due to \textit{I. J. Maddox} [``Infinite matrices of operators'' (Lect. Notes Math. 786. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag) (1980; Zbl 0424.40002)]. Proposition 3.1 contains some simple facts on \(\beta \)--duals which are straightforward generalizations of the (classical) case that \(X\) is the set of all real (or complex) numbers. Theorem 3.3 says that \(E^\beta\) and \(E^\prime \) are isometrically isomorphic when \(E\) is an BK--space having the property AK. This result is also an obvious extension of the classical case and is essentially contained in Theorem 2.9 of a joint paper of the reviewer and \textit{T. Leiger} [Result. Math. 16, 199-211 (1989; Zbl 0686.40003)]. In Theorems 3.4 and 3.6-3.9, the \(\beta \)-duals of the vector-valued sequence spaces of Maddox \(\ell(X,p),\) \(\ell_\infty(X,p),\) \(c_0(X,p),\) and \(c(X,p)\) are determined (where \(p\) is a fixed sequence of positive real numbers). In the classical case, these results are due to \textit{K.-G. Große-Erdmann} [Can. J. Math. 44, 298-307 (1992; Zbl 0777.46008)].
