The dynamics of multibody systems received much attention in the last time. To handle such problems, the so-called floating frame of reference approach has been used. The compexity of this problem stems from the fact that one must take into account simultaneously large rotations or translations and small elastic displacements. The difficulty is how to choose an adequate attachement between the body fixed coordinate system and the flexible body. Here the influence of reference conditions is analysed via two typical examples: a) an axial impact of a rigid body on a free elastic rod, and b) transverse impact of a flexible pendulum. The problem were solved by simulations employing adequate shape functions. Interesting conclusions are presented.
