For a viscoelastic fluid, the authors study the stability of two-dimensional flows generated by different wall motions. The nonlinear equations determining the flow field are solved numerically by using the finite difference technique and Gauss-Seidel iteration method. The velocity and pressure are expressed via the vorticity-stream function relationship, and special attention is paid to the computations for different aspect ratios. The calculations are also carried out for different values of Reynolds and Weissenberg numbers. The results are compared with those obtained in the literature for Newtonian and non-Newtonian inelastic fluids.
