The paper is devoted to the construction of an interactor that cancels the infinite zeros of a proper transfer matrix. The algorithm proposed for constructing the interactor, also in the case of a transfer matrix with more rows than columns and full normal rank, is similar to an algorithm proposed by \textit{B. R. Copeland} and \textit{M. G. Safonov} [Int. J. Robust Nonlinear Control 2, No. 2, 139--164 (1992; Zbl 0765.93023)], but new results concerning the structure of the Van Dooren canonical form of the system matrix pencil and the associated transformation matrices are presented. Conditions on the invariance of the stabilizability or controllability between the state-space realizations of the original system, the interactor, and the compensated system are also presented.
