Here, the authors consider the autonomous system \[ \dot u(t)=X \bigl(u(t)\bigr), \tag{AS} \] where \(X:\mathbb{R}^m \to\mathbb{R}^m\) is a vector field of class \(C^1\) satisfying \(X(0)=0\), and the origin is an asymptotic attractor for system (AS). They show that the origin is a global attractor for system (AS) and from here that it is globally asymptotically stable. For this purpose, the authors combine the direct method of Lyapunov with the method used by Olech under the so-called Markus-Yamabe (MY) condition. In the second part of this paper, a result on the global asymptotic stability for the two-dimensional problem is given when the condition (MY) does not hold in all space, and it is stated also the two-dimensional Markus-Yamabe conjecture. Some applications are considered, too.
