The initial-boundary value problem for the system \( p_t =(p_x +p\Phi _x)_x , \) \( n_t =D(n_x -n\Phi _x)_x , \) \( \varepsilon\Phi _{xx}=n-p\) is considered at the interval \(-1<x<1\), and the boundary conditions at \(x=-1\) are \(p-1=n-1=\Phi =0\). The boundary conditions at \(x=1\) are \(p-\Delta =n-\Delta =0\) and \(\varepsilon\Phi _{xt}+p_x -Dn_x +\) \((p+Dn)\Phi _x =0\). This system describes a container \(|x|<1\) with solutions of the same univalent electrolyte, initially at concentrations 1 and \(\Delta\) in regions \(-1<x<0\) and \(0<x<1\), respectively. The solutions are then allowed to mix. The unique solvability is proved, and the convergence to steady state is examined.
