The first main theorem is: Suppose that \(F=f+i\widetilde f\) is analytic in the unit disc in the complex plane and \(\alpha>1\). Then there are positive constants \(C_1, C_2\) depending only on \(\alpha\) such that \[ \begin{gathered} \int_{0}^{2\pi}| \widetilde f| \log^{\alpha-1}(e+| \widetilde f| ) \leq \frac{2}{\pi\alpha}\int_{0}^{2\pi}| f| \log^\alpha(e+| f| ) +\frac2\pi\int_{0}^{2\pi}| f| \log^{\alpha-1}(e+| f| )\log\log(e+| f| ) +\\ C_1\int_{0}^{2\pi}| f| \log^{\alpha-1}(e+| f| )+C_2.\end{gathered} \] Moreover, the constants \(\frac{2}{\pi\alpha}\) and \(\frac2\pi\) are sharp. The authors also give the corresponding results in the case \(\alpha=1\), \(0<\alpha<1\), and \(\alpha=0\). The case \(\alpha=1\) is a refinement of Pichorides' result on Zygmund's inequality. To prove their theorems, they refine B. Cole's theorem: Let \(H:\mathbb C\to \mathbb R\) be a continuous function. Then \(\int_{0}^{2\pi}H(f(e^{i\theta}), \widetilde f(e^{i\theta}))\,d\theta\geq0\) for all harmonic polynomials \(f\) with normalizd conjugates \(\widetilde f\) iff \(H\) has a subharmonic minorant \(h\) such that \(h\) is non-negative on the real axis. They further refine the case \(\alpha=1\) in another paper [``Best constants in Zygmund's inequality for conjugate functions'', in Papers on analysis: a volume dedicated to Olli Martio on the occasion of his 60th birthday, Univ. Jyväskylä, Report 83, 73--80 (2001; Zbl 1051.42007)].
