Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(H\leq G\). Two elements of \(H\) are said to be `fused' in \(G\), if they are conjugate in \(G\) but not in \(H\). The author is interested in \(p\)-groups \(P\) such that, for any group \(G\) having \(P\) as a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup, the \(p\)-fusion is controlled only by \(N_G(P)\) (i.e., any two elements of \(P\) which are fused in \(G\) are fused in \(N_G(P)\)). Such \(P\) is said to be `resistant'. A \(p\)-group \(P\) is called `generalized extraspecial' if it is nonabelian and its Frattini subgroup has order \(p\). The main result of this note is the following Theorem 4.2. Let \(P\) be a generalized extraspecial \(p\)-group. Then \(P\) is resistant except in the case when \(P=E\times A\), where \(A\) is elementary Abelian and \(E\) is either dihedral of order \(8\) or a nonabelian group of order \(p^3\) and exponent \(p\); in the exceptional case, \(P\) is not resistant.
