The purpose of this paper is to find and study different families of periodic solutions of Hamiltonian systems by combining symplectic reduction methods with averaging theories. The Newtonian version of the planar restricted circular problem is used and, for some of the achievements, the normalization of the Hamiltonian to higher orders is performed. Various new results on the existence of periodic solutions and KAM 2-tori and the appearance of Hamiltonian-Hopf bifurcations in different regimes of the charged restricted circular three body problem are discussed. It is proved that in the Hamiltonian problem associated with each triangular equilibrium point a Hamiltonian-Hopf bifurcation occurs. The sign of the coefficient of the normalized Hamiltonian determines the type of bifurcation. In particular, if the coefficient is positive the bifurcation is supercritical.
