Summary: I review some mathematical problems which arose in the field of biological sciences, including microbiology, population dynamics and evolutionary biology. My focus is on partial differential equation (PDE) models with multiple levels of description. For each case study, I mean to describe the biological essence of the problem, and the mathematical questions associated with it.
