The authors study the dynamics of the parametrized family of elliptic functions of the form $F_{\Lambda,b}(z) =\wp_\Lambda(z)+b$ for $b\in\mathbb{C}$, $\Lambda$ being a lattice, and $\wp_\Lambda$ the Weierstrass elliptic $\wp$ function with period lattice $\Lambda$. The Julia set is proved to be always connected for any square lattice $\Lambda$. The authors focus on real rectangular lattices and study bifurcations that occur in the parameter space. Firstly, they show that each conformal equivalence class of maps $F_{\Lambda,b}$ has a representative in the parameter space provided by one fundamental period for the lattice $\Lambda$ except possibly a triangular one. Secondly, they study the dynamics of the maps with real parameters $b$ and show that there exist constants $b$ such that the Julia set of $F_{\Lambda,b}$ is the whole sphere for every real rectangular lattice $\Lambda$, and that the same $b$ is also an accumulation point for parameters whose corresponding maps have a super-attracting fixed point. Thirdly, they look at a different part of parameter space along horizontal half lattice lines, and discuss bifurcations that can occur. Finally, they investigate the topology of the Fatou and the Julia set of $F_{\Lambda,b}$ for some square lattices $\Lambda$ and parameters $b$ lying on a horizontal half lattice line.
