The Hao-Ng isomorphism problem asks about the effect of a group action on a \(C^\ast\)-correspondence \(\mathcal{H}\) on its Cuntz-Pimsner algebra \(\mathcal{O}_\mathcal{H}\), namely, whether \(\mathcal{O}_\mathcal{H} \rtimes G \simeq \mathcal{O}_{\mathcal{H} \rtimes G}\) in a canonical way. This is initiated by the affirmative answer obtained for the case of abelian groups in [\textit{G. Hao} and \textit{C.-K. Ng}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 345, No. 2, 702--707 (2008; Zbl 1153.46040)]. It has been a focus of research whether it still holds for other groups or when the crossed product is full or reduced. It has been shown recently that this is the case for the reduced crossed product over any discrete group and for the full crossed product over a hyperrigid \(C^\ast\)-correspondence by \textit{E. G. Katsoulis} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2017, No. 18, 5751--5768 (2017; Zbl 1405.46044)]. The applicability of such results can be wide. For example, in an earlier work, the author of the paper under review used the Hao-Ng theorem on finite group actions on discrete graphs for \(K\)-theoretic purposes [\textit{V. Deaconu}, Houston J. Math. 44, No. 1, 147--168 (2018; Zbl 1401.46036)]. In the paper under review, the author investigates groupoid actions on \(C^\ast\)-correspondences. An analogue of the Hao-Ng theorem is shown under the assumption that Katsura's ideal remains stable between the two crossed product constructions. It is shown that this is the case when the \(C^\ast\)-correspondence comes from a locally finite discrete graph with no sources and the groupoid has compact isotropy groups. Furthermore, it is proven that the crossed product of the graph \(C^\ast\)-algebra by the groupoid is strongly Morita equivalent to a graph \(C^\ast\)-algebra.
