In the paper under review the authors study the regularity properties for the Kobayashi metric on the smoothly bounded strongly pesudoconvex domains admitting sufficiently regular Monge-Ampère exhaustions. This class is very large and contains, among others, all smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex complete circular domains and their sufficiently small deformations. The main result of the paper is the following. Let \(\overline D\subset\mathbb C^n\) be a closed strongly pseudoconvex domain of circular type with a Monge-Ampère exhaustion \(\tau:\overline D\longrightarrow[0,1]\) with center \(z_0\) and of class \(\mathcal C^{k,\alpha}\) on \(\overline{D}\setminus\{z_0\}\) for some \(k\geq4\) and \(\alpha>0\). Then there is an open neighborhood \(D'CD\) of \(z_0\) such that any other point \(z\) of \(D'\) is a center of a Monge-Ampère exhaustion \(\tau^{(z)}:\overline D\longrightarrow[0,1]\) of class \(\mathcal C^{k-2,\alpha}\) on \(\overline{D}\setminus\{z\}\). The dependence \(z\longmapsto\tau^{(z)}\) is of class \(\mathcal C^{k-2,\alpha}\). As a corollary, the authors obtain the following theorem. If \(\overline D\) admits a Monge-Ampère exaustion which is \(\mathcal C^{\infty}\) off the center, then its Kobayashi pseudometric \(\kappa:TD\longrightarrow[0,+\infty)\) is a smooth Finsler metric on an appropriate open subset \(D'CD\). For the entire collection see [Zbl 1402.30001].
