Moment-angle manifolds \(\mathcal{Z}_{K}\) naturally appear as torus bundles over non-singular, complete, projective toric varieties whose fan has the structure of a simplicial complex \(K\). The topology of toric manifolds has been well-studied by several mathematicians; however, it is now known that the topology of moment-angle manifolds is rather complicated. If the simplicial complex \(K\) is the dual of a simple convex polytope obtained from the \(k\)-simplex by cutting vertices, then \textit{D. McGavran} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 251, 235--254 (1979; Zbl 0428.57013)] and \textit{F. Bosio} and \textit{L. Meersseman} [Acta Math. 197, No. 1, 53--127 (2006; Zbl 1157.14313)] showed that its moment-angle manifold \(\mathcal{Z}_{K}\) is diffeomorphic to the connected sum of products of two spheres. Recently, Fan, Chen, Ma and Wang [\textit{F. Fan} et al., Osaka J. Math. 53, No. 1, 31--45 (2016; Zbl 1335.13018)] studied the moment-angle manifold associated to the simplicial complex \(K=\partial P^{8}_{28}\) (the boundary of a simplicial \(4\)-polytope with \(8\) vertices), and they showed that its cohomology ring is isomorphic to that of the following manifold: \[ M=(S^{3}\times S^{3}\times S^{6})\# (S^{5}\times S^{7})^{\# 8}\# (S^{6}\times S^{6})^{\# 8}. \] They also conjectured that the moment-angle manifold is actually diffeomorphic to \(M\). In the paper under review, the author solves their conjecture affirmatively, i.e., the moment-angle manifold \(\mathcal{Z}_{\partial P^{8}_{28}}\) is diffeomorphic to \(M\). To solve this, the author shows that the moment-angle manifold \(\mathcal{Z}_{\partial P^{8}_{28}}\) satisfies the conditions of the theorem of \textit{S. Gitler} and \textit{S. López de Medrano} [Geom. Topol. 17, No. 3, 1497--1534 (2013; Zbl 1276.14087)]. The most technical part is to show the homotopy type of \(Q\) whose boundary is \(\mathcal{Z}_{\partial P^{8}_{28}}\); the author uses the fat wedge filtration introduced by \textit{D. Kishimoto} and the author [``Fat wedge filtrations and decomposition of polyhedral products'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1412.4866}, to appear in Kyoto J. Math.] for this.
