Let \(V\) be a complex vector space of dimension 2 and \(\mathcal O(V)_d\) the vector space of forms of degree \(d\) on \(V\). For \(f \in \mathcal O(V)_d\) let \(M(f)=\mathbb C[x_1,x_2]/(\partial(f)/\partial(x_1),\partial(f)/\partial(x_2))\) be the Milnor algebra of \(f\) and \(\mathfrak{m}=(x_1,x_2)\). The map \(\mathfrak{m}/\mathfrak{m}^2 \rightarrow \mathrm{Soc}(M(f))\) , \(z \rightarrow z^{2(d-2)}\) defines the associated form. It is proved that all \(Gl_2\)-invariant functions of binary forms of degree \(d\geq 3\) on \(\mathbb C^2\) can be extracted from those of forms of degree \(2(d-2)\) by means of assigning to every form with non-vanishing discriminant the associated form.
